The exhibition “Baltasar Porcel. Mallorca, Barcelona, the World”, being presented at the Palau Robert and later at the CaixaForum Palma, recalls and pays tribute to one of the most important figures of contemporary Catalan literature.
The Institute of Catalan Letters and the ”la Caixa” Foundation, in collaboration with the Palau Robert, are organising this exhibition, curated by the writer and critic Julià Guillamon. The exhibition will run at the Palau Robert from 20 November 2015 to 28 February 2016 and at CaixaForum Palma from 5 June 2016 to 8 January 2017.
This initiative comes on the sixth anniversary of the death of Baltasar Porcel (Andratx, 1937 – Barcelona, 2009), a leading figure in Catalan culture in recent decades and an author whose literature draws on classical myths and legends and presents an unsettling picture of the contemporary world.
Porcel, who was awarded the Catalan Literary Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007, was renowned for the force and vitality of his writings in various genres. His work as a playwright and as a novelist, as a writer of in-depth reports and as an interviewer and a columnist demonstrate the breadth of his knowledge, passion and commitment.
The exhibition reconstructs every aspect of his personality and leads us into his rich literary world. The account it gives is divided into three sections: The Legend of Andratx, World News and Global Disorder.
