Palau Robert is hosting the first exhibition to showcase the important work undertaken in Catalonia by private healthcare and medical insurance companies over the last 100 years.
"Private Medicine in Catalonia through the Atlàntida Experience", organised by the medical insurance company Atlàntida in collaboration with Palau Robert and the Museum of the History of Medicine of Catalonia (MHMC), is on show from 14 to 30 September in the gardens of Palau Robert.
Private medicine has played a very important role in the Catalan healthcare model. In the last 100 years, almost half the Catalan population has, at some time, had some form of private medical insurance and made regular use of the clinical resources and hospitals of the private healthcare system. This figure is hardly coincidental. It is the result of a long-standing system in Catalonia known as the "Catalan healthcare model".
What are the origins of private medicine in Catalonia? What is the role it has played and continues to play in the healthcare system? Why do we refer specifically to the Catalan healthcare model? These are some of the questions that it is hoped this exhibition will answer.
